Science Discovery on Main Street Constellation Trail and Star Guide Launch

Join us at the Monroe County Public Library at 10am for a reception and the offical launch of the Science Discovery on Main Street Constellation Trail!

Monroeville Main Street is excited to announce the launch of the Science Discovery on Main Street Constellation Trail and Star Guide, a new downtown experience designed to connect science, art, education, tourism, and community discovery in the heart of Monroeville.

The Constellation Trail is part of Monroeville Main Street’s Science Discovery on Main Street initiative, supported through a grant from Main Street America and funded by Simons Foundation International. The project encourages residents and visitors to explore downtown Monroeville while learning more about astronomy, constellations, and Monroe County’s dark skies.

The trail features 16 constellation panels placed throughout the downtown district. Each panel includes a constellation design with star dots and connecting lines, along with the constellation name and official abbreviation. Participants can use the accompanying Constellation Trail Star Guide to complete rubbings from each panel and learn more about the night sky along the way.

The Constellation Trail and Star Guide are designed for all ages and offer a fun, walkable, scavenger hunt-style experience that encourages people to walk, shop, eat, explore, and spend time downtown.

The Constellation Trail and Star Guide will launch on June 30. The meeting location for the launch will be announced in the coming weeks.

Monroeville Main Street will also have a sign-up sheet available at the trail launch for anyone interested in joining the Monroe County Dark Sky Amateur Astronomy Club. The club’s first meeting will be held the evening of June 30 and will bring together astronomy enthusiasts, beginners, families, students, educators, and anyone curious about the night sky.

Monroeville Main Street is grateful to the City of Monroeville, Monroeville Police Department, Historic Preservation Commission, Monroe County Public Library, Monroe County Museum, downtown businesses, project partners, volunteers, and community supporters who have helped make this project possible.

Through Science Discovery on Main Street, Monroeville Main Street is working to connect local culture, downtown revitalization, education, and science discovery in meaningful ways. The Constellation Trail is one more reason to explore downtown Monroeville and one more opportunity to celebrate the wonder of the night sky from right here in Monroe County.
