The Monroe County Humane Society will sponsor the Ninth Annual Tail Chaser 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Monroe County Animal Shelter on Saturday, Oct. 11.

The event will be held in conjunction with Monroeville Main Street’s Second Saturday on the Square event. The race will begin at Monroeville City Hall on East Claiborne Street. To pre-register for the event, visit www.time2run.net. Race shirts are guaranteed for participants who register before Sept. 20. Registration forms can also be requested by sending an email to monroehumanesociety@yahoo.com. The form is published in The Journal this week.

Participants can pick up their run packet at 7 a.m. on Oct. 11 and a late registration will be held from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on the day of the event at the Monroeville Water Tower, next door to city hall on East Claiborne Street.

Awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers, the top male and female master-age finishers and the top two male and female finishers in each of the following age groups: 0-9; 10-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30 -39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; and 80 and over.

Post-run activities will begin at 10 a.m. as part of Saturday on the Square on the grounds of the Old Monroe County Courthouse. These activities will include the awards ceremony, Blessing of the Pets, a raffle, shelter donations and a pet costume contest.
